So I left it all! Packed my bags and moved to Florida. Along my journey of self-discovery I stumbled across THE love of my life and we are having a baby.

Wow how much my life has changed. ...More to come on everything metal and everything life!!! <3

Warped Tour 2011

After a brief stint of hospital visits, and a missed rockin concert, I’m back! :) 

So I missed The Asking Alexandria/ Emmure show in Lancaster. That’s ok! I’m gearing up to see Norma Jean and After the Burial on the 15^th of May, and possibly another show on May 27^th. But a definite go to this year is Warped Tour. The list of bands is long and the range of genres is pretty awesome this year. From alt-county/punk banks , folk/punk (whatever that is), it also includes metalcore, screamo, dubstep and all sorts of fun new genres that mix the best all of kinds of genres with metal. OH YES. So I have finally decided to download some new music. Don’t laugh, I grew up listening to Pantera and Slipknot, and hold them dear but I must keep up to date because there is so much talent out there. So the line-up includes Asking Alexandria (YES), The Devil Wears Prada (YES), Miss May I (YES), and We Came As Romans(YES).  Yes please, I will have all four in the same day for $36.

Now I have pressed “like” on facebook for these guys over a year ago but never REALLY listen to them: August Burns Red. Omfg they are fucking amazing. The genre Van’s Warped Tour as given them is Metal/Hardcore and I am fine with that. Apparently they are straight out of Lancaster, PA. Ha! It is amazing how much great music has been popping out of their local scene. I highly recommend “Meddler”(Amazing), “Truth of a Liar”, “Back Burner”, The Blinding Light”, “Consumer”, and “A Shot Below The Belt” (quite brutal-esque with a little Killswitch Engage influence on the side).  Just have a listen! It will be well worth your time. Don’t forget to check out “Barbarian” for the vocals are pretty great and EPIC guitars. Oh, BTW, “Composure”, “White Washed”, “Black Sheep” (a.k.a. omfg awesome) and “The Escape Artist” deserve a notable mention. It’s all fucking good and I can’t just pick out a few. Wow!!!!!!

The Acacia Strain= pretty fucking brutal. Warped Tour classifies these bad mofos as Metal/Hardcore. I think this combo of genres is probably one of the best. “Nightman” is pretty B.R.U.T.A.L. “Terminated” is unbelievably B.R.U.T.A.L. “The Carpathian” and “The Impaler” are fucking B.R.U.T.A.L. I’m not missing these guys!!  They are by far the most brutalist band on this tour which in my eyes equals the best!

A Day To Remember. My opinion: not feelin’ it

Motionless in White. Some songs are like Paramore mixed with something actually good. Lol! But I think “Immaculate Misconception” and “She Never Made It out of the Emergency Room” is good because the chick isn’t singing and it is more metalcore than teenybopper-sounding. I may try to download some more for it is hard to get a good idea after only three random songs. Maybe the chick doesn’t sing at all. Maybe it’s a dude! If so, then I think that would make it worse.  

Of Mice & Men: Pretty good

Abandon All Ships! Electicore? I dig techno. I grew up listening to the likes of Paul Oakenfold and the best-ever Dune. So it’s that mixed with hardcore? I’m down because either way, it is kinda cool. I recommend “Pedestrians Is another Word for Speed Bumps”, and “Geeving”.

July 26th better hurry up because I am ready for a full day of face-melting!

The Quest pt 2

So I have come to my final decision on which concert I am going to go to. Even though the concert is sold out (and 3 ½ hours away), I guarantee I can still get in. There is always some pissed off parent frantically trying to get their money back because they grounded their child. I am hoping this is the case. If not, maybe not everyone with tickets will show up and I can still get in before Asking Alexandria goes on stage. Then I will have a nice calm 3 hour drive home to take it all in.

I will be seeing Asking Alexandria, Emmure, Miss May I, Evergreen Terrace, and Lower Than Atlantis. I haven’t seen Asking Alexandria live yet. I am excited! Even though people make fun, I feel quite brutal AND happy whilst listening. I expect the brutality to be heightened because of the liveness. Miss May I, I have seen last year with The Devil Wears Prada and put on a slammin’ show.  Evergreen Terrace I believe I saw about 10-ish years ago (if it is the same band I am thinking of). I have heard of Lower Than Atlantis but have no idea. I am downloading some now. Emmure is going to be pretty brutal. So all in all, a pretty epic metal weekend coming up. What better way to celebrate tax season?

Sanguinus

BRUTAL!! Apparently last I heard they need a bass player. Excuses, I say! Awaiting the Crow is their debut album released in 2008. With songs like “Emo Grinder”, “Fetal Buffet”, and “Trust from the Barrel of a Shotgun” one must wonder to themselves... 

I personally wondered “Hell Fuckin Yeah!” But that’s because I Still Am Metal. This is the metal I grew to love. It’s raunchy with clean guitar solos, lots of Lo-Fi and awesome vocals. Some influences range from the likes of Testament, Cannibal Corpse, Eyehategod, and whatnot. Me likey all the above! 

My personal favorites from Awaiting the Crow are “Not Even Your Shadow Will Be Remembered” and “Not A Day Over Dead”(…SILENCE!!). I am highly anticipating their second album coming out. SO HURRY THE FUCK UP SANGUINUS, please. \m/

Beneath the Sky. 

Their music is pretty tight, so where are they? I have no clue. I have really only listened to their most recent album “In Loving Memory”, but may favorite song on there is Blood & Separation. For that review I just have to say that I love it. There is nothing more. So here is a review of another great song on this album, Tears, Bones & Desire.

Tears, Bones & Desire by Beneath the Sky mixes various sub-genres of metal with plenty of breakdowns and a little sludge to go along. That real nice Lo-Fi is awesome. If you don’t like “singing” singing, it is minimal. So get over it for this one is pretty fucking sweet. 

Worth a listen.. I give 4 stars.

Mon 18 April – Metal As Fuck Monday! – Skeletonwitch and 3 Inches Of Blood and Radical Discharge and Ethereal Genocide at the Ottobar (Baltimore, Maryland) – Modern thrash act Skeletonwitch headlines a killer metal show at the Ottobar on this Monday night in April. They’re bringing with them 3 Inches Of Blood and Radical Discharge and Northern Virginia based death metal band Ethereal Genocide is opening this show only. Should be killer. If that wasn’t good enough, everyone over 21 at the show will get a voucher for free beer at the upstairs bar after the show where they’ll be playing heavy metal tunes on the stereo the rest of the night. Tickets cost $12 ($15.50 after fees if you buy a ticket online from Mission Tix). The doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7:30pm. It’s open to all ages

Tues 10 May – Destruction and Deströyer 666 and Heathen and Warbeast at Bourbon Street (Baltimore, DAMNIT!!!!
 Maryland) – Destruction is one of the big three German thrash bands from the 80s (along with Kreator and Sodom) and they’re coming to Baltimore on this Tuesday in May. They’re touring with Australian band Destroyer 666. I don’t know who the local openers are yet, but I’ll post them when I do. Tickets are $20 advance ($23.50 after fees if you buy a ticket online from Mission Tix) or $25 the day of the concert. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm and it’s open to all ages.
UPDATE: Deströyer 666 has dropped off the tour due to injury of one of the band members (more info here). They have been replaced by Bay area thrashers Heathen.
